In Shosh's words:

THE WARPER PARTY ROCKS!!!!! Eliza B and I had a f****ing BLAST a
coupla weeks ago -- performing, hanging, chilling, dancing, partying, just soaking in all
that vitality! Yo!!! I mean, like The Warper Party is seriously the quintessential
"New York's Best Kept Secret." Check it out --- the edgiest, newest, hottest,
most experimental, daring and hip electronic music that you can find in the Entire City --
no joke. And, a smart, groovy laid back crowd, mixed, chill, unpretentious, happening.
Located smack in the very hippest hood in NYC today - Williamsburg, just one block from
Bedford on N. 8th St. In one evening, from 8pm -- 2am, you get between over 15 to over 18
or more eclectic electronic musicians all showing their stuff, with varying shows and
grooves going on simultaneously in two rooms. At one point, I was in the back room,
mesmerized by "exclusive Or." They were so abstract. They were amazing. The one
guy was pulling and punching those brightly colored cables like a psychedelic
old-fashioned telephone switchboard, but each time it would change a sound in the music.
It was something he'd rigged up. Visually, it was quite a show. He was improvising with
his partner who was picking up and putting down an assortment of little metal boxes and
twirling and tweaking knobs with a meaningful gleam in his eye. The music was amazing --
definitely nothing anyone had ever heard before. I kept straining my eyes towards the door
looking for Eliza, figuring she'd come looking for me eventually, and wanting to discuss
this fantastic aural and visual display with her. Eventually, I laughed and realized that
she was not going to come through that door because she was undoubtedly stuck in the other
room, just as unable to leave as I was, thoroughly enjoying some other new music, likely
something completely different. And indeed she was -- some fabulously hot house music! I
even got a twirl on the floor with her - ha ha! The Warper Party is really two different
parties at once -- and we just enjoyed both levels in one night -- A) The Best Most Fun
and Interesting dance & art music party in town, AND, B) a community of electronic
musicians coming together every month to share new discoveries. And what a stellar
community it is! One might expect nasty competitiveness, but not at Warper. No, this is a
community of open-mindedness and mutual respect, almost idyllic really. Was an honor and
delight to perform sandwiched between Moldovar and DJ Shaky, both esteemed! The venue even
has an outdoor chill-out garden with picnic table seating in the moonlight. |

The Vision Festival is sponsored by Arts For Art, which is a multi-cultural,
artist-initiated organization whose purpose is to build awareness and understanding of
avantjazz and related expressive movements while encouraging a sense of community amongst
artists and their audiences. Our principal activities are the presentation of innovative,
creative music, dance, multi-media performances, spoken word, and the exhibition of visual
arts. Rise Up Creative Music and Arts (RUCMA) is a new creative music organization founded
in 2007. RUCMA is built around a grassroots coalition of musicians and music lovers who
have united to address a variety of creative, political and practical concerns relating to
New York's artistic culture. Most essential in this regard is a coordinated effort among
both organizations to build an innovative new center for creative music and arts in lower
Manhattan. For 12 years, The Vision Festival was limited to one huge exciting annual
weekend festival of concerts. Shoshke-Rayzl is extremely proud to perform in the new
Vision Festival/ RUCMA Series, started in 2008.
N.B. Shosh's mentor from Bennington College and lifelong friend, the great
world-influential master innovator, Bill
Dixon, received a lifetime achievement award Summer of 2007 at The
Vision Festival, where he staged a premiere performance with The Sound Vision Orchestra of
a new original composition. This performance can be seen on the internet by webcast
worldwide & on TV in NYC Wednesday night, May 14th, 2008 at midnight
- in Manhattan on Time Warner cable channel 57, RCN cable channel 84 and worldwide
on the web at www.MNN.org (on lower left of
home page, select channel 57 under 'Watch MNN Live'). [ Click
here for new Online Viewing Help Notes! Recommended to try it out in advance,
cause it probably starts on time!] The concert is a near one hour length composition
-- a world premiere -- composed especially for this event. The orchestra includes
many great improvising musicians -- such as Warren Smith, Jackson Krall, Glynis Lomon,
Graham Haynes, Steve Swell, Karen Borca, Joe Daley, Dick Griffin, J.D. Parran, Steve
Haynes, Taylor Ho Bynum and many more. 'Transcendent' is just one of many adjectives
that can describe the concert -- one that all modern music enthusiasts should want to see.
For more information, please contact somerealmusic@earthlink.net or http://www.bill-dixon.com
BTW, the new Lower East Side is chock full of interesting cafes, galleries, etc.
Very lively! You may wish to come to the area Saturday evening several hours early, have
dinner, explore, make an entire evening out of it... Please come to the live multimedia
art music experience on May 17th. We really want to show our support to The Vision
Festival / RUCMA - providing performance venues for creative music in The City!

SHOSHKE GOES CLASSICAL! This only happens 'bout once a year folks
(with occasional sneaks in between), so check it out! This year, its the Trio (all
guitars, of course) with Zehra Aydin and Jamie Bennett. Directed by the world renowned
Tali Roth. "L'Encouragement" by Fernando Sor, quintessential
18th/19th century Spanish classical guitar composer. This piece's numerous sections each
evoke completely different moods. It's amazing how a composition written hundreds of years
ago, transmitted through mere written notation, can so effectively communicate so much
feeling from such a vastly different time and place.
"Maple Leaf Rag," by Scott Joplin, early 2oth century American Black
composer, known for virtually defining the Ragtime genre. Usually played on the piano,
arranged here for classical guitars, but true to the composer's sound, before the jazz era
borrowed from Ragtime, with its original pre-jazz syncopation.

Sat., July 16, 2005 -- Duo Noir, Southwest
Cafe -- Ridgefield, CT -- This was an unusual show for me -- not
the sort of music I usually play these days -- softer, mostly acoustic, going back to my
classical guitar training -- my other musical love. I was touched that Benoir invited me
to perform with him as part of his "Duo Noir" show.
The venue is a sweet little cafe in Ridgefield, CT -- a nice place to have a super
delicious meal in the cuisine of New Mexico. You can bring your family or come alone. It's
like a mini-vacation to get away from the City. Directions are on their website, below; or

I hope you are keeping your heads cool in this heat, whew! Saturday night was a lot of fun
for me as I premiered my latest DUO NOIR partner in justice - Shoshke-Rayzl. Her acoustic
nylon string guitar, and electric lead guitar playing both enhanced my show at the
Southwest Cafe, up in Ridgefield, CT. Special thanks to her for spending hours preparing
the music with me. Special props to my man Nando from Jamaica who shared his beautiful
voice to the mix. He and I are currently working together on an R & B record of sorts.

Tue., Feb 1, 2005 -- The new
version of the Noirkestra returned to Joe's Pub, NYC
for another late evening show. This version of Noirkestra is geared towards dance
electronica music, but with a twinge of psychedelic sounds and strong dub groove
elements. The event was part of a CD release party for a unique singer, song-write and
performer, Anthony Mills.
The current flavor of Noirkestra contains some members from
before and some different members, all of whom did play at our own CD release party at
Joe's last August.
Benoir -- bass
Dan Covan -- hand sonic (electronic midi sounds)
Lee Farber -- drums
Jodan -- keyboard
Shoshke-Rayzl -- electric guitar
It was a fun evening, with fabulous DJ dance and lounge vibes and
additional live music. "The Eclectic Ride" is a weekly music event; but
the theme for Feb 1st was to celebrate the release of the newest CD, "Cry" by
Anthony Mills. He performed with his own band, Ghettotrance, later in the
show.

Utilizing psychedelia, post-avant
electronica, and a melange of New York improvisers, Benoir has transported the
listener to the 22nd Century with a debut album by the NOIRKESTRA. Think Sun-Ra, Led Zep,
Bitches Brew, Ornette, Zorn, Mahavishnu, Santana, Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Pink Floyd, and
Steve Reich jamming with the Band of Gypsies (in space) at a cyber-erotic interstellar
rave!!!
